Happy Halloween!

Like Mommy said, we have been busy this week, but we didn't go many places! Grammy and Granddaddy stayed a couple of days after everyone else left so we spent a little time with them. One day we went with Mommy, Emily, Frankie and their mommy for pizza and then to the new Dollar General store! We also went to the Taqueria twice this week! We are learning how to eat rice and Mommy has decided it really is better if we learn to eat rice somewhere besides our house as it is a little bit messy. There are a lot of pictures of us eating this week...hmmmm!!! We are eating some new foods: cottage cheese and avocado seem to be our new favorites and we are getting real milk instead of just formula. Also speaking of eating, there are some more teeth sprouting up in our house. Garet has five teeth (or the start of five teeth) and Kitt has two bottom teeth but nothing up top quite yet. Clearly, our lack of teeth isn't slowing down our eating! There are some pictures below of us playing with some of our new toys. We seem to love all of the musical instruments a lot right now! It even looks like Kitt is doing a little catalog shopping, too. Tonight we were really hoping to get to see some trick-or-treaters and we waited and waited outside for them but none came before we had to go to bed. Next year, it will be different!!!! Kitt is working with her new physical therapist now and is really getting good at crawling. Hopefully Mommy will make a video of it later this week.

We know, we know....

We aren't supposed to be posting but once a week. However, Mommy found this cool thing that takes the words that appear most often in a blog and puts them in a picture, so to speak. Anyway, ours is to the left of the blog. If you click on it, you can see it bigger. Fun, huh?

A year....so soon?

Today is our first birthday!!! We got lots of cards and phone calls today and appreciate everyone who remembered our special day. Mommy made a movie chronicling our first year and you can see it by clicking here. We also had our one year check-up. What a way to say "Happy Birthday"--4 shots each! We did get new measurements though. Garet is 29 3/4 inches and weighs 19 pounds, 4 ounces. Kitt is 28 1/2 inches long and weighs 18 pounds, 12 ounces. We are on the growth chart for everything, even without adjusting for our prematurity.

Now we have some sad news to share with you. Mommy has been very diligent in logging us in to update our blog; however, she says that in our second year we are going to be much busier (that's hard for us to imagine) but if she says it, it must be true! Anyway, Mommy says we won't have time to post as often as we have been. Don't worry....this isn't the end of the blog. She promises to still let us post once a week (unless something really important happens) so check back every Sunday night or Monday morning as we will update at the end of every weekend.

Mommy didn't take any pictures today but we thought we would close today with our recent birthday picture and then one of our earliest pictures. We certainly can't remember being that small but we are so glad we are doing as well as we are and growing so much. To all of you who have read our blog so faithfully, who have loved us so unconditionally, and who have supported us so diligently, we thank you. We will see you this weekend!!!

It's our party.....

What a day! Today we had our very first birthday party. It was such a fun time with so many people who love us and who care about us. It was a perfect day. Here are some pictures of the day including our brand new swing set from GAMA and the new piano Uncle Mike got us. We got lots of other fun toys and presents, too, but only some got in the pictures. Check out the whole album here.

This was a very special day for Mommy and Daddy, too as they celebrate our first year. Mommy decided she would share her feelings about this day with us in a letter and we want to share the letter with you.

Dear Kitt and Garet,

Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a mommy. While it took us a while to get to that point, I can hardly believe we celebrated your first birthday today. I also can hardly contain my excitement I feel when I think of how far you have come. When I remember the day you were born, it should have been one of the happiest days of my life, but instead it was probably the scariest day of my life. It was certainly way too early for you to be born, but it was almost as if you didn't know that. You just kept fighting. So much about your young lives is a miracle and your stay in the NICU was no exception. In the many days that followed your birth, I watched you bravely learn to breathe on your own and ultimately to eat on your own. While those days were very hard for me, the two of you never thought of giving up. You have been fighters all your lives. And while I didn't care to hear the words of the good-intentioned nurses when they told me this whole time would be a blip in your memory, I can finally admit they were right. Although I spent countless hours in the NICU visiting you, I rarely think of those days anymore. Instead I think of the immense joy you have brought Daddy and me. I think of the laughter and smiles you have brought into our house. I think of the sleepless nights, not with resent, but with a grateful heart for your lives and what they mean to us. It wasn't your fault that you were born early, and you accept it without hesitation, judgment or denial. While it took me a while to overcome my emotions, I look back now over this year and am so proud of how far we have come and how much we have endured. I am happy with the life I was given and most of all I am happy that the two of you are so happy and bring us so much joy. Although you've just been with us for a year, I can barely remember my life before you were born and would not go back to those days for anything. I wish you a very happy birthday and a wonderful year ahead as you continue to grow and develop in so many ways.

I love you very much,
Mommy

Visitors, and cupcakes and dresses, oh my!

Yesterday Granny arrived. Mommy was a little worried that we wouldn't recognize her (especially Garet who seems especially afraid of strangers) but we both did. She immediately gave us one of the souvenirs she and Grandpa brought us from Wyoming: fluffy animals which we loved! She also gave us ball caps once we got home. We played at home and took a walk. Today we got dressed up in some of our birthday clothes from GAMA and went to the NICU to see the people who took such good care of us while we were there. Today was the one year anniversary of the day Mommy had to go to the hospital. Of course, Garet seemed a little worried with all the "strangers" even though they knew her very well. We took cupcakes and cookies to share with the doctors and nurses. It was a great celebration of how far we had come. After our naps we went with Mommy and Granny for walk and then watched while Mommy got her nails done. We can't wait for the day when we can get our nails done!!!! Mommy's friend, Kristin, came in on an airplace today but we were already asleep when she got here. We will see her tomorrow and all of the other people who are coming to see us and celebrate our birthdays with us.

Today we stayed at the house for the most part. This morning, Garet helped Mommy hang clothes out on the line, but it was a little cold! Kitt started with her new physical therapist this afternoon and they got along really well. The only other thing we did was go to the grocery store to get a few things and then also to the post office with Daddy. Tomorrow Granny comes and we have been waiting to see her for a while! Mommy and Daddy really hope that our excitement does not keep us from sleeping.

Gearing up!

Today and tomorrow, we are keeping things pretty low key in anticipation of our birthday weekend. Today we played a lot around the house and went to lunch with Emily, Frankie and their Mommy. We were so good for our Mommy, too! We slept late AND took two good naps. We knew she needed to get some things cleaned and organized for the party so we let her get it done! In the one picture she took today, we are playing very nicely in separate exersaucers.

Heading north.....

Today we took a trip north to Sautee Nacoochee. We got to see our good friends, Bob, "Aunt" Forrest, Bess, Will, and Malinda. We took a walk around the neighborhood and even saw these horses. We know that Grandpa really likes this place and we think GAMA would really like it, too! We played and played most of the day and had so much fun. We have a big week ahead of us so we are going to rest up as much as possible.
